Schengen Area

Due to the abandonment of the European Union and Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty by Britain on March 29, 2019, this word has come to be discussed. The Schengen Agreement is a treaty that led to the creation of the Schengen Area of Europe, in which barriers to the internal border were largely abolished. On June 14, 1985, five of the ten member states of the then European Economic Community signed it in the Schengen city of Luxembourg.

The Schengen Area created by the Schengen Agreement is a joint sector of 26 European states, which officially terminated passports and all other types of border controls on their mutual boundaries. The Schengen Area generally acts as a jurisdiction for international travel purposes with a similar visa policy. States of the Schengen Area have strengthened border control with non-Schengen countries.
